Tamar D. Warburg, an accomplished attorney and community advocate, is dedicated to serving the residents of New Jersey’s 37th Legislative District, where she was raised and is now raising her own family. With a strong background in law, nonprofit governance, and community engagement, Tamar brings a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to improving lives.

A Proud Product of New Jersey

Born and raised in Englewood, Tamar grew up in a close-knit family with her parents and four sisters. After graduating summa cum laude from Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women, Tamar earned her law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Her career began with over a decade at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, where she specialized in trusts and estates law, serving high-net-worth families and handling complex estate planning.

Leadership in Nonprofit Governance

In 2019, Tamar transitioned from private practice to become General Counsel of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ. She oversees the legal affairs of a foundation managing over $600 million in assets, addressing matters related to corporate governance, donor-advised funds, endowment funds, and a landmark $250 million Centennial Campaign. Tamar’s strategic legal expertise has facilitated transformative projects, such as:

• Securing a $200 million real estate donation

• Guiding the sale of unused property to fund critical community programs

• Managing the legal restructure of a custodial funds program 

Community Advocacy and Family Values

Tamar and her husband moved to Teaneck in 2015 to raise their five young children in the same vibrant community where she spent her formative years. Deeply connected to her roots, Tamar serves on the Democratic Committee of Bergen County, serving as a local representative of the Democratic Party.

Her personal and professional experiences have shaped her passion for giving back. From advocating for the underserved to advising local nonprofits, Tamar’s work consistently reflects her belief in strengthening communities and securing a better future for all New Jersey residents.
